Who this is for

And the real problem is who you can ask. Not your manager: they're part of the system you're trying to read. Not at home, because it turns into worry. Your friends are dealing with their own version of it.

What I'll actually do

I won't motivate you. There will be no "follow your passion."

You'll walk me through your situation: specifics, with numbers. I'll tell you what's happening on the other side: what your manager is likely weighing, how the calibration room probably went, what's buried in your offer, and what your realistic next move is.

Where I don't know, I'll say so instead of guessing.
